Hard and soft bounces

edited August 2013 in Using Sendy

Hi,

i am really not used how to 'read' bounces.
Just got a mail from Amazon that i have to fix my bounces quota.
I understand that, and my lists are really updated regularly.

I even check the email lists with bulk email verifiers.

However i am not sure how Sendy handles and displays bounces
a) how do i read the bounces if hard OR soft bounces?
b) are hard bounces removed automatically by Sendy, from the lists?
c) can i have more info if a bounce was herd or soft, so i can sort the mails concerning?

Help is appreciated.

  • Hi @pivi,

Emails that bounced (hard bounce) are registered in Sendy so that future emails will not be sent to them. Amazon doesn't care about 'soft' bounces.

    a) how do i read the bounces if hard OR soft bounces?

It's only the hard bounces that matter. You can see hard bounces in:

    1. Your campaign reports
    2. Your lists

    b) are hard bounces removed automatically by Sendy, from the lists?

    1. Hard bounce - registered in Sendy so that future emails won't be sent to them again
    2. Soft bounce - Amazon will retry sending to emails that 'soft' bounced. Sendy will also keep a record in the database but it's not displayed in Sendy's user interface. You don't have to worry about soft bounce at all as Amazon doesn't care.

    c) can i have more info if a bounce was herd or soft, so i can sort the mails concerning?

As I mentioned above, you only need to be concerned about 'hard' bounces. If you're thinking of removing emails that 'hard' bounced off your list, I recommend not doing that. Leave them inside Sendy so that you won't accidentally import the same emails that 'hard' bounced in future.

    Best regards,
    Ben

  • Thank you Ben, that was important for me to know.
So, i suppose that when exporting the list(s), the hard bounced ones are not exported. Right?
Because clients would like to download 'clean' lists from time to time.
If not so, maybe it would be a nice feature.

Thank you for your superb support.
I love this great app. Life saver ;-)

  • Hi @pivi,

If you export from the 'Active' tab, bounces won't be exported.

Thank you, I'm glad you like it. :)

    Best regards,
