Gmail displaying images error when no images are present

edited May 2014 in Questions

Hey guys,

Please help me to work this one out. I'm sending what is effectively a plain text email, as HTML. It only contains text and text links. There are no images present in the email what so ever. When I open the email in GMail on the desktop it is giving me display images error.

"Images are not displayed. Display images below"

Can anyone confirm why this is? Is GMail simply showing this for every single HTML email, whether it contains images or not?

I'm not sure if this error happens in other web based clients. I am going to try and look into that now.

Thanks in advance.

  • Hi,

Every email contains an invisible 1 x 1 pixel tracking image at the bottom of the email. This is the tracking image responsible for tabulating your campaign report showing you all the data like number of opens, opened from which country etc.

    Thanks.

    Best regards,
    Ben

  • Haha. Cheers Ben. This has been driving me mad for weeks.

One question though. Does the tracking image still work, i.e. Does it collect the info, if the images are not displayed?

  • Does it collect the info, if the images are not displayed?

If images are not displayed, data cannot be collected. This is the same for any email marketing platforms out there. :)

    Thanks.

    Best regards,
    Ben
