500 Internal Server Error when installing

edited October 2012 in Troubleshooting
Just trying to install Sendy for the first time but keep getting an internal 500 server error.

Checked the error log and it says:

.htaccess: Option FollowSymLinks not allowed here

Can you help?

  • Is mod_rewrite enabled on your server?
  • Hi, I would like to inform the Sendy team that we've experienced the same issue today on our server, using version 1.0.9. We do have mod_rewrite enabled on our server and we are running Apache 2.2.3 under CentOS with PHP 5.1.6. Commenting the first two lines of the .htaccess file at the root of our Sendy installation seems to have solved the issue for us.
  • I would appreciate some feedback from the Sendy team regarding the first two lines of the .htaccess file that we had to comment in order to make Sendy work and avoid the 500 Internal server error problem. What are these lines used for and can we leave them commented out? Thanks!
  • @abaltazar glad you got it sorted.

    FollowSymLinks - http://www.maxi-pedia.com/FollowSymLinks
'Multiviews' was added because url rewrite did not work on Godaddy servers unless it was added.
