This is a non-secure form message

edited April 2017 in Troubleshooting

I had a guy email me today saying that he wanted to sign up to my newsletter but kept getting this message in his browser "this is a non-secure form". Here's my site, the sendy form is near the bottom: https://www.shutupandplay.ca/

This is a Weebly site and the whole thing is SSL...how can I make the sendy form secure? Thanks
Andy

    Hi,

Why this is so is that your form is submitting to a non HTTPS endpoint but the website on Weebly is using HTTPS.

If you install Sendy on 'HTTPS' instead of 'HTTP', then the "not secure" message will not show up. On the other hand, if your Weebly website is using 'HTTP' and not 'HTTPS', then this message won't show up.

As your Weebly website is using 'HTTPS', you'd need to install an SSL certificate on the server that's hosting Sendy if you want to eliminate this "non secure form" message. Once done, you'd need to change the APP_PATH in /includes/config.php and your form's 'action' endpoint on your Weebly site to reflect the HTTPS version of your Sendy URL.

Please note that installing of SSL certificates is not within the support scope of Sendy. If you need help with installing SSL on your server, I suggest hiring an affordable programmer at places like https://www.fiverr.com, https://www.elance.comhttps://www.upwork.com etc.

    Thanks.

    Best regards,
    Ben

  • Hey Ben, thanks so much for the info. Totally makes sense. I have my sendy files on a Digital Ocean droplet. I guess maybe they can help me with installing an SSl certificate. Thanks again. cheers
