CSV list import - some records being missed

I imported a CSV file into an empty list and two of the records weren't imported. I can't work out why. I isolated them into a new CSV and still the same result.

When I changed the email address, they imported into the list. And then I was able to edit the email addresses manually from the list with no problem.

The two in question were different domains and there were other records using the same company domains that imported fine.

I also had the same issue when importing another two names separately. One of them didn't import and again, changing the email address did the trick.

Does anyone have any ideas.
