v7 List-Unsubscribe=One-Click Resolved?

edited July 24 in Questions

Hey Ben
I'm using Sendy 6.1 with Double Opt-Out enabled. My emails include List-Unsubscribe-Post: List-Unsubscribe=One-Click, and clicking the unsubscribe link immediately unsubscribes the recipient before displaying the page. Multiple Microsoft 365 enterprise recipients from the same domain are being unsubscribed at identical timestamps. Is Double Opt-Out expected to apply to One-Click unsubscribe, or is immediate unsubscribe the intended behavior?

Probably Proofpoint, Mimecast, Barracuda and many other security solutions are opening every link in mail to check and as they open unsubscribe link, recipient being unsubscribed. I found this as multiple users from same organization being unsubscribed at same time.

Kindly confirm if this has been resolved in v7 or any other work around?

  • Hi Pankaj,

Immediate unsubscribe is the intended behavior for one-click unsubscribe.

The List-Unsubscribe=One-Click mechanism is defined in RFC 8058, which specifies that when a mailbox provider sends a valid one-click unsubscribe request, the recipient should be unsubscribed immediately without requiring a confirmation page.

The specification was also designed to prevent accidental unsubscribes caused by link scanners. Security solutions such as Proofpoint, Mimecast, and Barracuda should not trigger a one-click unsubscribe unless they explicitly perform the required HTTP POST request.

Based on what you've described, it doesn't sound like this is related to Sendy v6 or v7, as the behavior is expected to be the same in both versions. If multiple recipients from the same organization are being unsubscribed simultaneously, it's possible that something in their email infrastructure is incorrectly issuing one-click unsubscribe requests rather than simply scanning links.

    Best regards,
    Ben
