Improve validation

Is it possible to improve validation for subscriber email entry? I am getting subscribers who forget to put in hotmail.com or yahoo.com with hotmail.cm and the like. Is there any additional syntax checking or possibility of improving new subscriber syntax validation?

Validating email is done throughout the entire app. If an email is not in the right format, it will be caught. But it does not catch 'mis-spellings'.
