Slow Send Rate

DanDan
edited February 2013 in Troubleshooting

My send rate from amazon is 28/sec.

The actual send rate I am seeing through sendy is about 3/sec.

(sent)/(Seconds since start, 3 Hours 24 minutes) = emails/sec
(39,900)/(33600+2460) = 3.25

Any thoughts?

  • Hi Dan,

Sendy sends 28 emails per iteration (which is your send rate) until all your emails are sent out. Whether Sendy can finish an upload of 28 emails to Amazon SES in one second determines your overall sending speed and very much depends on these factors:

    • The size of your newsletter
    • Your server's computing power
    • Whether your server frequently timeout (each timeout cost 5 mins)
    • The number of emails that requires sending to be retried (each retry cost 1 to 2 secs)
    • Your hosting company's internet connection upload speed
    • Geographical location of your server versus SES's servers

    Thanks.

  • Thank you for this information. Is there an easy way to determine if the server times out frequently?

Not at this time though. Sorry about that.
