Emoji not displaying correctly

I have tried adding emoji to subject lines by copy and pasting, using hex and decimal and the apple emoji keyboard and while they display correctly in the WSIWYG editor, as soon as I switch to the HTML editor they are replaced by ???. Also I have tried going from HTML editor to WSIWYG and the same happens.

Help!

On a separate note, if I send immediately after copy and pasting they appear on mac mail correctly but on iphone (latest iOS) they appear as not supported (? in a box)

    Hi,

    Please ensure the $charset in in /includes/config.php is set as 'utf8mb4' in order for emojis to work:
