Confirmation link in double opt-in seems quite borked
I seem to have a low confirmation rate for people signing up. Getting reports from users that the confirmation link in the email is broken. Each time I test the email they send it works for me. So it looks like it is an email client issue - aol.com and yahoo.co.uk seem borked.
So I followed the advice to force a html link in the email by using
https://sendy.co/forum/discussion/2839/confirmation-link-not-working-for-outlook-email-addresses/p1
<a href="[confirmation_link]">[confirmation_link]</a>
in the confirmation email, but this just gives a gibberish block for ALL users now.
This is what is looks like in gmail now.
Please could you click this link to confirm
<a href="http://rosacea-support.org/rosacea-news/confirm?e=zhzC7GfLpKzxkleJCgpEOQ&l=F3NvFEUMpxAlLK6Kyi8928LQ">http://rosacea-support.org/rosacea-news/confirm?e=zhzC7GfLpKzxkleJCgpEOQ&l=F3NvFEUMpxAlLK6Kyi8928LQ</a>
that this email address is valid and you want to be subscribed to the list.
I checked and it looks like valid HTML in the template for the confirmation email.
So this seems ugly for everyone, but maybe functional for everyone ? surely there is a better way this problem can be solved ? a URL shortener ? or some tag that will survive all the email clients out there ?
thanks

Hi,
You need to paste
<a href="[confirmation_link]">[confirmation_link]</a>
inside your emails HTML code.Thanks.
Best regards,
Ben
Thanks for the reply Ben,
I have this line when the confirmation email is showing in HTML mode.
<p><a href="[confirmation_link]">[confirmation_link]</a></p>
and it shows a nice blue
[confirmation_link]
in the text preview suggesting it might work, but it renders that ugly sort of double html when received in gmail.I'm confused as to why !
I added screen dumps of the html format, text format, and gmail format to make it clearer (I hope).

May I know where can I sign up to your list as a test so I can receive the confirmation email? Thanks.
http://rosacea-support.org in the middle column is the sign up box.
thanks.
Hi,
Can you please click the 'HTML source' button in the WYSIWYG editor, then paste
<p><a href="[confirmation_link]">[confirmation_link]</a></p>
inside so that the HTML tags won't be converted into HTML entities like it did now which casued the problem.Thanks.
Best regards,
Ben
OK looks better, the double HTML is gone.
Hopefully this will fix aol.com inboxes too - but who on earth knows how to test that ????
Thanks!
I just signed up a test aol.com email account and could subscribe it to my list using the webmail for aol.com no problem.
